Ah nothing like messing about on the river. I ended up punting along the river in Oxford today, what a way to spend a Saturday, quintessentially English. We stopped at the pub, (of course!), for lunch and started a conversation about the use of Avatars. Second Life is a company that’s promoting the world of Avatars (a word borrowed from Sanskrit and Stephenson’s science fiction novel Snow Crash), not only for personal and leisure use, but also for business to business activity. That, to me, is an interesting line of thought. Imagine a world where you go online and attend meetings as your Avatar; you can rent or buy offices and interact with other individuals from other organisations across the world all without getting on a plane or even in your car. Great for the environment and the company bottom line.
I also think it could have a place in the world of learning and development – what if you could attend training courses as an Avatar? Any thoughts about that out there?
